Work smarter, not harder.

I have been amused by reading Smokey's post about jumping up on the sofa to get treats, fursonally, I don't think that it's worth the effort. I tend to spend most of my time sat beside the buck 2-foot's chair so that I only have to reach up to receive a treat whenever I want one (which is of course most of the time).

I would say that Smokey will learn given time, but in his case, as he is so stupid, I very much doubt it.
